Secretary General’s Welcome Letter
Advisors and Delegates,
It is with great anticipation that I invite you to the fourteenth annual Seton Hall Univeristy Model United Nations Conference (SHUMUN XIV). The conference will be hosted from April 20 to 21, 2013 at Seton Hall University. This year, we have greatly renovated our organization in order to host a high quality conference.
First, the Senior Secretariat decided on consolidating our resources by implementing the following conference theme: “How has the global financial crisis redefined the world?” In turn, all committees and topics were carefully selected to relate to the theme in one way or another. Thus, the conference theme allows for interactivity across all our committees.
Instead of debate merely leading to the climax of a resolution being passed, SHUMUN XIV is focusing on educating delegates about how resolutions in one committee can affect other committees. Therefore, delegates have the opportunity to see how their committee’s resolution will effect other committees. However, if stalemates persist and no resolution is passed, delegates in one committee will most likely feel the effects of resolutions passed in other committees.
Delegates will be able to pick from nine committees spanning from cabinets to intergovernmental organizations to multinational corporations. Regardless of the size of the committee, each committee plays a pivotal role in the conference simulations and understanding SHUMUN XIV theme.
Rest assured, all nine committees have been divided into three tiers to accommodate beginners, while challenging experienced delegates.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Senior Secretariat or myself by filling out our Contact Us form. Thanks for your time and we look forward to welcoming you to SHUMUN XIV.
Sincerely,
Harjaap Singh
Secretary-General, SHUMUN XIV
