SHUMUN XIV Theme

SHUMUN XIV’s theme is “How has the global financial crisis redefined the world?” This theme is not intended to focus on merely the economic consequences of the global financial crisis, but to reveal the present geopolitical shifts occurring.

For example, Germany and China’s economic growth has quickly caught the world’s attention as the United States continues to struggle to resurrect their economy. In turn, Germany has become the engine powering Europe’s economy, while China is seen as the backbone of Asia’s economy.

We implemented this conference theme in order to innovate simulations and foster interactivity between all committees. Accordingly, delegates will have the opportunity to not only effect the direction their committees take, but the outcome of the conference. This allows for dialogues between all delegates, regardless of the committee they are in.

We are offering nine committees relating to our conference theme which span across cabinets to intergovernmental organizations to multinational corporations. Thus, our simulations has been streamlined to provide delegates with an unforgettable conference.

Expectations for Delegates

Since the conference will involve delegates interacting with other delegates across committees, we are looking for delegates who will utilize all the tools at their disposal. An ideal delegate is an individual who is able to realistically portray the country or position they are representing, effectively use parliamentary procedure, deliver quality speeches, and draft quality resolutions.
