Chair: Joey Brennan

Topic A- Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities

DREAM | Visit the Empire State Plaza & New York State Capitol

The Organization of American States has a profound duty to ensure the rights and dignity of all its citizens. Yet, discrimination against persons with disabilities remains a critical concern. This topic will delve into the depths of this issue, exploring the socio-economic disparities, accessibility barriers, and systemic prejudices that hinder the full participation and integration of disabled individuals in our societies. Delegates will engage in dynamic debates, negotiations, and policy crafting to foster an OAS framework. They will strive to develop comprehensive solutions as well as explore the role persons with disabilities play in social and economic sectors in the Americas.

Topic B: Cruel and Unusual Punishment

In a world where justice and human rights are at the forefront of global consciousness, the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights of the Organization of American States must confront the uncomfortable truths surrounding the use of punitive measures that defy the bounds of international human rights conventions. Delegates will need to balance the pursuit of justice with the imperative to protect the inherent rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their circumstances. As the committee sessions unfold, delegates will be expected to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time, cruel and unusual punishment. The outcome of these deliberations could pave the way for a world that truly upholds the principles of justice, compassion, and respect for all.
